Baby Plots to keep Mommy Awake All Night - Check it out - so cute!

Here is a spoof on some of the most popular sleep training methods, from a baby's point of view. I found this on a fellow blogger's blog and asked if I could share it with you.  It is so funny, enjoy!

'OK, here’s my situation. My Mommy has had me for almost seven months. The first few months were great. I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, day or night. Then something happened. Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep through the night). At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse. I’ve talked to other babies, and it seems like its pretty common after Mommies have had us for around six months.

Here’s the thing: these Mommies don’t really need to sleep. Its just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep and they just don’t need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the Crybaby Shuffle. It goes like this:

Night 1: Cry every three hours until you get fed. I know, its hard. Its hard to see your Mommy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, its for her own good.

Night 2: Cry every two hours until you get fed.

Night 3: Cry every hour. Most Mommies will start to respond more quickly after about three nights.

Some Mommies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mommies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don’t give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!! If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I KNOW ITS HARD! But she really doesn’t need the sleep, she’s just resisting the change.

If you have an especially alert Mommy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mommy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it.

Last night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it. BE CONSISTENT! I cried for any reason I could come up with. My sleep sack tickled my foot. I felt a wrinkle under the sheet. My mobile made a shadow on the wall. I burped, and it tasted like pears. I hadn’t eaten pears since lunch, what’s up with that? The cat said 'meow'. I should know. My Mommy reminds me of this about 20 times a day. LOL. Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room. Too hot, too cold, just right - doesn’t matter! Keep crying!! It took awhile, but it worked.

She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am. You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mommies internal clocks. Sometimes my Mommy will call for reinforcements by sending in Daddy. Don’t worry, Daddies are not set up for not needing sleep the way Mommies are. They can only handle a few pats and shhing before they declare defeat and send in the Mommy.

Also, be wary of the sleep sheep with rain noises. I like to give Mommy false hope that listening to the rain puts me to sleep sometimes I pretend to close my eyes and be asleep and then wait until I know Mommy is settling back to sleep to spring a surprise cry attack. If she doesn’t get to me fast enough I follow up with my fake cough and gag noise that always has her running to the crib.At some point I am positive she will start to realize that she really doesn’t really need sleep.

P.S. Don’t let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, no milk will come out. Trust me.

I found this post on "Sleep, Baby, Sleep" blog - thanks Violet for letting me share this!

Harvest of Gold by Tessa Afshar

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Harvest of Gold
River North; New Edition edition (July 1, 2013)
by
Tessa Afshar

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

TESSA AFSHAR was voted "New Author of the Year" by the Family Fiction sponsored Reader's Choice Award 2011 for her novel Pearl in the Sand. She was born in Iran, and lived there for the first fourteen years of her life. She moved to England where she survived boarding school for girls and fell in love with Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, before moving to the United States permanently. Her conversion to Christianity in her twenties changed the course of her life forever. Tessa holds an MDiv from Yale University where she served as co-chair of the Evangelical Fellowship at the Divinity School. She has spent the last thirteen years in full-time Christian work.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The scribe Sarah married Darius, and at times she feels as if she has married the Persian aristocracy, too. There is another point she did not count on in her marriage-Sarah has grown to love her husband. Sarah has wealth, property, honor, and power, but her husband's love still seems unattainable.

Although his mother was an Israelite, Darius remains skeptical that his Jewish wife is the right choice for him, particularly when she conspires with her cousin Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Ordered to assist in the effort, the couple begins a journey to the homeland of his mother's people. Will the road filled with danger, conflict, and surprising memories, help Darius to see the hand of God at work in his life-and even in his marriage?

A hidden message, treachery, opposition, and a God-given success, will lead to an unlikely bounty.

If you'd like to read the first chapter of Harvest of Gold, go HERE.

OraMD ~ freshens breath, cleans mouths, and makes the dentist happy ~ Review & Giveaway

Some Background Information
Trusted Health Products has had great success with OraMD over the last 12 years selling over a half million bottles. OraMD – an all-natural liquid toothpaste, mouth rinse and breath freshener - is endorsed by Dr. Tom McGuire, a world-renowned dentist and leading authority on preventive dentistry, and is also starting to be offered in holistic dental offices nationwide.

I was offered a chance to try OraMD all-natural liquid toothpaste, mouth rinse and breath freshener for this review.  I was reluctant at first to try something other than my usual toothpaste and mouth rinse but decided to go ahead and give it a try.  I was a bit surprised when it arrived in a very small box.  The bottle is tiny compared to what I expected, but as I read the instructions and noted that it only takes 2 to 5 drops at a time, I realized that sometimes smaller is better.

Mommy Moments - When Summer Break is too much together time for kids!

When in doubt about how to get the kiddos to get along during school breaks - separate them.

If that doesn't seem to work, or you want them to learn to get along - make them play a game together - come up with a NEW way to play an old game - or work together on a fun project (like a welcome home banner for Dad who is on a work trip) - oversee them for a few minutes to get them started - then tell them to find the best way to work together without arguing!

You can even offer a prize or incentive for getting along well! (yes I do resort to bribing my kids on occasion)

There is always taking them to a local park to let them run off steam - but during hot and humid summer days the park is not always the best idea.  And what about when mom is trying to get housework (or blogging) done?  Well, again I say separate the little monkeys and give them each something to do alone - read a fun book, color a picture or two, fold towels or washrags (ideas for younger kids) - CLEAN YOUR ROOM - lol for the older ones, or play something alone -

AND if all else fails - call in the Grandparents for help!

Any ideas?  Please leave comments below with YOUR school break ideas for helping the kiddos not argue, fuss and drive Mom insane! ;)

Mom Loves 2 Read is the Mother of Three Active little monkeys children ages almost 12, 8 and 5.  These are my personal experiences, thoughts and anecdotes and may differ from your own experiences or opinions.

Alpha Phonics Review & GIVEAWAY on Mom Loves 2 Read

My Review:
I was sent a free Alpha-Phonics book as well as The Alpha-Phonics & How To Tutor Little Companion Readers and The Alpha-Phonics and How To Tutor Phonics Workbook for this review.

Alpha phonics is a program that teaches kids to read using simple techniques that I remember using when I was in grade school.  With story booklets that remind me of the "See Spot Run" type stories I read from in Kindergarden when I was a child, it is fun and easy for young kids to learn the techniques and phonics necessary for early reading skills.

TETON sports Internal Frame Backpack GIVEAWAY on Mom Loves 2 Read

 TETON Sports
Teton Sports is a great website that supplies many of the most common needs for campers, hikers, scouts and more.  My son Josh has become a Boy Scout (previously a Cub Scout) this past spring and was excited to finally go to Boy Scout Camp last month.  The only problem we had was figuring out how he was going to carry all of his stuff for an entire week by himself for nearly a mile over three LARGE hills.  We were fortunate to get a second-hand external frame backpack as his main pack and use a regular school backpack as his second one.

Many of his friends had nice Internal frame backpacks to use.  I thought that by next year I would make sure he had one of the internal frame ones as the External frame seemed very heavy and cumbersome for him.  Though it did have a lot of room for his supplies and clothes!

To read our Review - Click HERE!

NOW FOR THE GIVEAWAY - Teton only ships to the lower 48 US states (no PO boxes) - 18+ only may enter/win!  Winner will receive an Internal Frame Backpack like the one in our review from TETON sports!  Giveaway will end 7/31 midnight (CST) - winner will be notified via email within 1 week of contest end and will have 48 hours to reply and claim prize.

In Golden Splendor By Michael Reynolds ~ Book Tour through CFBA

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
In Golden Splendor
• B&H Books (July 15, 2013)
by
Michael Reynolds

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Michael K. Reynolds is the writer and producer of Emmy and Telly Award-winning film campaigns and has more than two decades of experience in fiction, journalism, copywriting, and documentary production. He owns Global Studio, a marketing agency, and is also an active leader in church and business, speaking in both ministry and corporate settings. Michael lives with his wife and three children in Reno, Nevada.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Irish immigrant Seamus Hanley is a lost soul, haunted by his past as a U.S. Army deserter and living alone in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains in 1849. But after witnessing a deadly stage coach crash, he finds purpose in the scattered wreckage -- a letter with a picture of a beautiful and captivating woman named Ashlyn living in San Francisco at the height of the Gold Rush. Moved by her written plea for help, he abandons all and sets out on an epic journey across the wild and picturesque American frontier. While being pursued by those who want to hang him, Seamus encounters fascinating characters including a young Pauite Indian who makes the ultimate sacrifice in helping Seamus to cross the snowy Yosemite Valley. Battered but changed for the better, Seamus reaches San Francisco on Christmas Eve as the city burns in the tragic fire of 1849. But there is little time for rest, as an even greater, more harrowing adventure involving Ashlyn is about to begin.

Back to School Blast $1000 Visa GC ~ Have all the school supplies paid for this year!

Welcome to the Back to School Blast!

Getting your family prepared to head back to school, can be difficult especially after a long, fun-filled summer. Here are a few of our favorite Back to School Tips to help you along the way.

1. Back-to-School Supplies Checklist - Backpack? Check. Pencils? Check. Safety scissors? Not Yet. Use the same checklist each time you head out to grab supplies, to keep track of what you have already purchased and the things you still need to. These are also handy if you have more than one child. Simply print 2, 3, 4 list and add their name to the top.

2.  Keep everything organized by putting it inside the child's backpack as you purchase it.  Why wait til the last minute to separate each child's items when you can do it as you go!  It also makes it easier to double check to make sure each child has everything he or she needs and isn't missing anything.

3. Easy labeling!  Try peel and stick labels rather than using 'permanent' markers (which aren't always so permanent).  Try Mabel's Labels or something similar for fun personalized name stickers for each child's school supplies!

4. Try shopping without the kids!  Sometimes taking them along makes it more difficult to buy what is needed instead of what they want - those funky colored pencils, pens, notebooks and such are more expensive and sometimes are not necessary.  You could let them choose their favorite color(s) or one or two more personlized items, but having them choose every item on the list can be stressful.

5. Shop early!  Don't wait until the last minute to get those supplies.  I know many stores have last minute sales, but you take the risk of not finding all the items on your list!

6. Keep a "back to school" supplies container from year to year.  I have a small container that I purchase extra supplies each year when they are on super cheap specials!  Then I use it before shopping to fill my list and only have to buy a few items for each child before school starts.  It is less pressure and lets me get good deals as well.  Plus there are many times when items get lost or broken, and we go to the extra container to replace them!

The Back to School Blast was organized by Mom Powered Media.
Please take a moment to also visit our lovely co-hosts, whom without them great things such as these would not be possible: My Vegan Gluten-Free Life, Plum Crazy About Coupons, Capri's Coupons, Downshifting - Your Family, Your Home, Your Life, Jack of all trades, Master of Mom™, Quick Tattletails, Mew Review and Iowa Mom.

One lucky winner will receive a $1,000 Visa Gift Card!

Giveaway ends August 15th at 11:59pm, open worldwide, ages 18+. If the winner resides outside of the US, they will receive Paypal cash. To enter please use the Rafflecopter form below. Good luck.

Get your camping supplies, scout supplies and more from Teton Sports ~ Review on Mom Loves 2 Read

When TetonSports.com offered me a chance to review for them, I chose an Internal Frame Backpack as my review product.  Unfortunately it was too late for camp, but still worth trying out!

teton Scout The Scout3400 Internal Frame Backpack is a full 55L and only weighs 4.5 pounds (that is at least 3 pounds less than his other pack).  It is hunter green - perfect scout color - and very durable.  It has numerous pouches, pockets, zippers and places to tie or strap on more gear!  We can't wait to take it camping!  It has so many compartments for stuff that I don't think we could ever fill them all!  And, best of all, it comes with a handy rain cover!  That would have come in handy on the first day of camp when most of the scouts' gear got soaked by a random rainstorm just as they unloaded all the packs!

This amazing backpack comes with some great features:

  • Multi–position torso adjustment fits wide range of torso sizes (it can fit myself, my son, and my husband)
  • Hydration Capacity (not included) - (it has a small pocket where you can put in a hydration pouch)
  • Thick mesh lumbar pad for comfort and airflow against your back (my son loves this!)
  • Side and front compression straps to secure sleeping bag, pad, or tent (perfect for taking extra stuff!)
  • Front and top bungee stash storage for jackets, shoes, or rope
  • The back and hip padding made of durable open–cell foam with lumbar pad and molded channels provides maximum comfort and allows airflow (much more comfortable than external frame packs!)
  • Integrated bright yellow water–resistant rainfly

  • Josh and I both absolutely love this backpack.  My husband even checked it out (inside and out) and says it is a much better one that his and is better made!  It also has more pockets, and even though it is a bit "smaller" it has more clips and straps to add gear to than the one my husband uses.

So for your camping, scouting, hiking or outdoor and travel needs, check out Teton Sports first!  With a wide range of gear available they are a great place for more than just backpacks! Now he wants one from Teton as well!Josh has his eye on a camp pad from Teton Sports for next year's Scout Camp adventures!

You can find Teton Sports on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube!

Grounded by Neta and Dave Jackson ~ Book tour thru CFBA on Mom Loves 2 Read

    This week, the
    Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
    is introducing
    Grounded
    Worthy Publishing (May 7, 2013)
    by
    Neta and Dave Jackson

    ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

As a husband/wife writing team, we are enthusiastic about books, kids, walking with God, gospel music, and each other! Together we are the authors or coauthors of over 120 books. (You can see our Publication Record by clicking HERE.) In addition to writing several books about Christian community, we have been privileged to coauthor numerous books with expert resource people on a variety of topics from racial reconciliation to medical ethics to ministry to kids in gangs.

But over the years the we have especially enjoyed writing for children and young people! This includes our award-winning TRAILBLAZER series, historical fiction about great Christian heroes and heroines for young people ages 8-12, and the four-volume HERO TALES: A Family Treasury of True Stories from the Lives of Great Christians, and the companion book, Heroes in Black History.

Somewhere along the way, our own children grew up! Son Julian is Director of Experience Design for the Alder Planetarium in Chicago where he “provides the experience of exploring space” for visitors. He has two sons, Liam Isaac and Elijah David. Daughter Rachel graduated from Eastern Mennonite University and after working in the field of rape-crisis prevention went on to earn a Masters Degree in counseling from the University of Illinois. She is now a counselor at “Uni High School” in Champaign, Illinois. She is the loving mother of Havah Noelle (our first grandchild!) and Noah Zion, our youngest grandchild. The Jackson family also includes a Cambodian foster daughter, Samen Sang, who has four children.

We live in Evanston, Illinois, where for twenty-seven years we were part of Reba Place Church, a Christian church community. We are now members of a multi-racial congregation in the Chicago area.

    ABOUT THE BOOK

...But Hope May Be Just Across the Street

Grace Meredith is a beloved contemporary Christian recording artist whose career--and personal life--hits unexpected turbulence. She feels grounded--in more ways than one. Grace s fiancé, bothered by her outspoken stance on purity and her near-constant travel, has broken off their relationship. Exhausted and unable to continue her current concert schedule, Grace returns home to Chicago, where she is soon stranded in a major snowstorm. Facing new questions about her future and her faith, Grace finds herself connecting for the first time with the residents of her neighborhood. What she discovers in these unexpected relationships could change everything.

Welcome to the Neighborhood The first in the Windy City Neighbors series, Grounded is an uplifting, contemporary story about ordinary people wrestling with the spiritual and practical issues of real life. The series employs the innovative storytelling technique of parallel novels, each with its own drama and story arc, but whose characters lives become intertwined and affect one another. Grounded welcomes you to Beecham Street--a typical, isolated American neighborhood that might just be a place of hope.
