The Kendama is a traditional Japanese toy which consists of the “Ken” (handle) and the “Tama” (ball), which is connected by a string. The two extending sides of the kendama are concave cups, with one end smaller than the other. The larger cup is called the ōzara ("big cup") and the smaller cup is called the kozara ("small cup"). There is another, even smaller cup, called the chūzara ("center cup") at the bottom of the ken. The Kendama tricks are done by variations of juggling the ball in the three cups spiking the ball with the Ken spike, and balancing both in new creative ways. Mastering the Kendama takes practice, focus, patience, and creativity.
So there you have it, readers! The Kendama is anything but a boring toss and catch game…and it goes to show

My two older children LOVE to take their lunches to school. With the new food rules about healthier school lunches, my kids eat at school less and less than they used to. The 'whole wheat' breads and buns often taste stale to them, and many of the side items are weird and do not taste as the kids think they should. So sorry "healthier" lunch options, but my kids are not fond of your taste, textures, funny looking broccoli or weird dried apricots and beets for side dishes.

Groove Kid Nation continues its award-winning music education series with a third release Rhythm Bears. Producer Rodney Lee once again recruits top L.A. musicians and heads deep into the woods to create a soulful folk hoedown. As the title suggests, Rhythm Bears is all about drawing kids into the music with rhythmic call and response games that will have them clapping, stomping, playing percussion, and vocalizing to the beat. In addition, a band of groovy bears open childrens’ ears to a whole new set of musical instruments including harmonica, fiddle, acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, clarinet, kalimba, ukulele, and even didgeridoo. Each song features a new instrument, and the enclosed 10-page booklet features colorful illustrations of each Rhythm Bear. My Review: Oh My! All three of my kids had smiles on their faces when this CD began playing. My oldest said the music was "kinda cool" for a little kid's CD. My two girls loved it and immediately began dancing to the beat of the drums and tempo. My youngest has been listening to it off and on for weeks in her room and often wants it brought into the living room so we can "all dance together" as it plays. This is a fun and cute set of music for younger children that teaches rhythm, music, and fun through the use of different instruments and musical selections. Not only do the children enjoy listening and dancing along, but parents will enjoy the music right along with their kiddos. I found myself tapping toes, moving feet and dancing along with the kids when this CD was playing. It is definitely worth checking out! You can find out more at http://groovekidnation.com

Historical Conquest: The Journey Through Time is an
adventurous card game where players can create personalized societies
with key players from history and battle them one against another;
anyone, anywhere, anytime. Each card is complete with: fantastic
illustrations of people, places, events in history; abilities in the
game according to the abilities they had in real life; and a full
summary of their actual history. Eric the Red can help the Mongol Army
conquer Argentina during the Black Plague. Albert Einstein can live
peacefully in Japan under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln during World
War I. The possibilities are endless, as is the fun!
If you can
imagine a game played with actual heroes and villains worldwide from
throughout history, you understand the concept behind Historical
Conquest. The first edition was printed a few years ago and has grown a
following; everyone who has played it loves Historical Conquest.
Unfortunately, due to certain limitations we were not able to mass
produce it… UNTIL NOW!

What is
treasure? How do people hunt for treasure? What do YOU treasure? We like to Treasure our local Museums - especially when the weather is hot and humid and the pool is filled with people. I like to take my kids to a Children's Museum for the day to explore, have fun and enjoy themselves while learning about new and exciting things! The
science, technology, history, and thrill of treasure hunting are explored in the
fantastic traveling exhibition Treasure! The Hunt Has Just Begun. This
joint project of Burpee Museum of Natural History and Discovery Center Museum in Rockford IL, features 5,000 square feet of artifacts, hands-on
activities, videos, biographies, and tales from around the world. The
traveling exhibition opens May 25 and runs through September 2.
Delve
into the technology employed by treasure hunters and focus on the people and
personalities lured by the promise of prosperity. Be enticed by shipwreck and
treasure site artifacts, and learn to use the tools you'd need to find a
fortune. Dig for treasure and pan for gold. Operate a Remote Operated Vehicle
(ROV) in a tank of water. Use a metal detector. Use maps, compasses and clues to
locate treasure. Learn how to geocache. You can even try your hand at cracking a
